The United Arab Emirates and Syria are looking to deepen their economic relationship, with senior officials from both countries discussing new avenues for trade, investment and private-sector cooperation.

The discussions were held in Dubai between Abdulla bin Touq Al Marri, UAE Minister of Economy and Tourism, and Dr Mohammad Nidal Al Shaar, Syria's Minister of Economy and Industry.

During the meeting, the two ministers reviewed opportunities to strengthen bilateral economic ties and explored areas where businesses and investors from both countries could play a larger role.

Focus on High-Growth Sectors

The talks covered several sectors viewed as important to future economic cooperation, including tourism and hospitality, infrastructure, logistics, entrepreneurship, advanced industries and the new economy.

Both sides also discussed how closer engagement between Emirati and Syrian companies could help create new commercial opportunities and support wider economic development.

Bin Touq said the UAE and Syria have longstanding historical ties that can provide a foundation for broader cooperation in investment and development.

He reaffirmed the UAE's interest in expanding economic and development projects in Syria, saying stronger commercial engagement could support sustainable growth while opening new opportunities for businesses in both markets.

UAE Businesses See Potential in Syrian Market

The UAE minister said Syria's economic resources and investment potential could provide opportunities for Emirati companies seeking to establish or expand operations in the country.

Greater private-sector participation, he noted, could also contribute to stronger economic links and help support development initiatives.

The meeting also included a discussion of the UAE's broader economic strategy. Bin Touq highlighted policies designed to improve the country's business environment, increase economic competitiveness and attract companies operating in emerging and technology-driven sectors.

The UAE has continued to update its legislative and regulatory framework as part of efforts to strengthen its position as a regional and international centre for investment, trade and business activity.

Syria Seeks Greater Economic Openness

Al Shaar said economic relations between Syria and the UAE are continuing to develop as Syria moves towards greater engagement with regional and international markets.

He pointed to Syria's geographic position and economic resources as factors that could strengthen its role in trade and investment across the region.

The Syrian minister also stressed the importance of increasing private-sector participation and creating a more attractive environment for investors.

According to Al Shaar, encouraging investment in development and strategic projects will be an important part of Syria's efforts to support economic growth and expand commercial partnerships.

The Dubai meeting reflects growing interest from both governments in widening economic engagement and creating stronger channels between businesses, investors and institutions in the UAE and Syria.
