Emirates SkyCargo has launched a dedicated air freight service for artificial intelligence infrastructure after transporting more than 700 tonnes of AI-related equipment across its global network in July 2026. The new service, named AI Tech, is designed to meet growing demand for the transportation of high-value and sensitive technology equipment used in data centres and AI computing systems.
Announced on November 3, 2026, the service will support shipments of semiconductors, graphics processing units (GPUs), server racks, capital equipment and other hardware required to build and operate AI infrastructure.
Dedicated Handling for High-Value AI Equipment
AI infrastructure often involves expensive, delicate and oversized equipment that must reach its destination within strict installation schedules. Emirates SkyCargo said its new service combines priority loading, specialised handling and proactive shipment monitoring to improve the reliability of these shipments.
The service includes standardised handling procedures designed to maintain equipment orientation and reduce the risk of damage during transportation. Customers will also receive airport-to-airport shipment visibility, with milestone updates monitored through the airline's command centre in Dubai.
For unusually large or heavy shipments, the airline will provide specialist project cargo support. This is particularly relevant for server racks, some of which can weigh more than 3.5 tonnes.
Growing Demand From AI and Data Centre Expansion
The launch comes as investment in artificial intelligence and data centre infrastructure accelerates worldwide. Technology companies are expanding computing capacity, creating greater demand for GPUs, advanced chips, servers and supporting equipment.
These shipments often move between manufacturing centres and major technology markets, requiring specialised logistics services that can accommodate both high cargo values and tight delivery timelines.
Badr Abbas, Divisional Senior Vice President of Emirates SkyCargo, said the airline transported more than 700 tonnes of AI infrastructure in July alone and that demand had continued to grow. He added that the company aims to become a preferred carrier for businesses operating across the AI ecosystem.
Freighter Fleet to Support Future Cargo Growth
Emirates SkyCargo plans to strengthen its capacity for specialised shipments through its dedicated freighter fleet. By March 2027, the airline expects to operate 23 dedicated freighters, providing additional main-deck capacity for tall, dense and heavy technology equipment.
Alongside its freighter operations, the company will continue using cargo capacity aboard its wide-body passenger aircraft. This combination is intended to provide greater flexibility for transporting AI hardware across international markets.
Emirates Targets a Larger Role in AI Logistics
AI Tech is available across Emirates SkyCargo's global network for most AI-related cargo, including chips, semiconductors and server racks. Highly specialised manufacturing equipment will require advance assessments to confirm that the relevant airport facilities can safely handle the shipment.
The launch marks an expansion of the airline's technology cargo offering as AI investment creates new requirements across global supply chains. By combining specialised handling with shipment visibility and additional freight capacity, Emirates SkyCargo is positioning itself to serve the growing logistics needs of the global AI industry.
