Dubai : Dubai's residents are being invited to contribute their personal experiences and historical insights as part of the newly launched 'Erth Dubai' initiative. Spearheaded by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, the initiative seeks to document and celebrate the emirate’s journey through the voices of its people.

Preserving Dubai’s Legacy

The 'Erth Dubai' initiative will collect and catalogue personal narratives, cultural memories, and historical accounts that reflect Dubai’s rapid transformation over the years. According to Sheikh Hamdan, the project aims to safeguard the emirate’s cultural legacy and ensure its continuity for future generations.

"We invite everyone to take part in this initiative... Together, we write Dubai's history in the voices of its people… We carry its past into its future," said Sheikh Hamdan.

An Interactive Cultural Archive

An interactive platform will be developed to gather and preserve these narratives, allowing Dubai’s residents across different age groups to contribute their unique perspectives. This effort seeks to deepen the collective memory of the city and strengthen its cultural identity as a fundamental aspect of the national heritage.

Community Engagement and Documentation

'Erth Dubai' will roll out in multiple phases throughout 2025, beginning with submissions from residents. These stories will be evaluated by a panel of experts in history, culture, and sociology to ensure their authenticity and relevance.

The initiative encourages participation from all sectors of society, including school students, government employees, and business leaders. Special campaigns will be conducted in collaboration with the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) to engage students in documenting the stories of their parents and grandparents.

A Tribute to the Past, A Vision for the Future

Sheikh Hamdan emphasized that Dubai’s success is rooted in its past and the resilience of its people. He urged residents to play an active role in shaping the emirate’s historical record.

"Dubai's journey is a story of ambition, resilience, and unity. It began with the vision of our ancestors, was carried forward by our fathers, and continues to evolve through the efforts of the current generation," he stated.

The initiative is part of a broader effort by the Dubai government to document and preserve its history. It aligns with ongoing projects such as the Dubai National Archives Project, overseen by the Mohammed Bin Rashid Library, which aims to ensure accessibility to significant records of the emirate’s achievements and cultural heritage.

Through 'Erth Dubai,' the community has a unique opportunity to immortalize its experiences, making them an invaluable resource for future generations seeking to understand and appreciate Dubai’s evolution.
