flydubai has temporarily suspended all flights to and from Israel after a serious security incident aboard flight FZ1073, which was travelling from Dubai to Tel Aviv on September 30.

The airline said the suspension was made in coordination with the relevant authorities and will remain in place while investigators establish what happened. flydubai said the safety and wellbeing of passengers and crew remain its highest priority.

FZ1073 Diverted to Saudi Arabia

Flight FZ1073 departed Dubai International Airport for Ben Gurion Airport but was diverted to Tabuk, Saudi Arabia, after an emergency developed during the flight.

The UAE's General Civil Aviation Authority said the aircraft experienced a security incident that was brought under control before the plane made an emergency landing. Some crew members were injured and taken to hospital for treatment.

flydubai said all passengers were safe and accounted for, and the airline arranged another aircraft to transport passengers onward to Israel.

Reports Point to a Cockpit Altercation

Details of the incident remain under investigation. Israeli officials and Reuters reported that the co-pilot allegedly attacked the pilot, with the confrontation sending the aircraft into a steep descent before passengers and crew intervened.

Reuters reported that the plane lost nearly 14,000 feet in about 30 seconds before control was regained. The passengers and crew were subsequently able to help secure the cockpit and the aircraft landed safely in Tabuk.

flydubai has described the event as an altercation on the flight deck and has cautioned against speculation while authorities investigate.

UAE Authorities Urge Against Speculation

The UAE General Civil Aviation Authority has said investigation teams are reviewing both the operational and security aspects of the incident.

The authority has urged the public not to circulate unofficial information or draw conclusions before the investigation is completed. Findings will be released once the relevant authorities have established the facts and circumstances surrounding the event.

The motive behind the incident has not been established publicly.

Israel Tightens Aviation Security

The incident has also prompted additional security measures in Israel. Israeli officials said the country planned to strengthen checks on pilots flying into Israel following the FZ1073 incident.

The episode has raised questions about cockpit security and screening procedures, particularly for international flights arriving in Israel during a period of heightened regional security concerns.

Passengers Returned Safely

After the emergency landing in Tabuk, flydubai sent replacement aircraft to Saudi Arabia to bring the stranded passengers to Israel.

The passengers eventually arrived at Ben Gurion Airport, while the airline continued coordinating with authorities over the investigation and the temporary flight suspension.

Flights Suspended While Investigation Continues

flydubai has not given a firm date for when its Israel services will resume. The airline said it will review the suspension as more information becomes available and will work with affected passengers on alternative travel arrangements.

For now, the FZ1073 incident has resulted in a temporary interruption of flydubai's UAE-Israel services, while aviation and security authorities continue to determine exactly what happened aboard the aircraft.
