Abu Dhabi – The UAE Fatwa Council has set the Zakat Al Fitr amount for Ramadan 2025 at Dh25 per person or 2.5kg of rice, ensuring it benefits at least two underprivileged individuals.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the council confirmed that Zakat Al Fitr is obligatory for all Muslims—men, women, children, and the elderly—who have the financial ability to give. The payment must be made before the end of Ramadan to ensure that those in need receive the necessary support in time for Eid Al Fitr.

Guidelines for Missed Fasts and Expiation Payments

The council also announced expiation (fidyah and kaffarah) payments for those unable to fast or who have broken their fast under specific conditions:

  • Breaking a fast intentionally: Individuals must pay Dh15 per day for 60 poor individuals, totaling Dh900, or donate 3.25kg of wheat per person.
  • Inability to fast due to illness: Those with chronic health conditions who are unable to fast must pay Dh15 per missed day or donate 3.25kg of wheat per day.
  • Missed fasts of a deceased person: If a person passes away with missed fasts, their family must pay Dh15 per missed day or donate 3.25kg of wheat per day on their behalf.
  • Delayed compensation for missed fasts: Those who fail to make up missed fasts without a valid excuse must pay Dh15 per missed day or donate 3.25kg of wheat per day.
  • Breaking an oath while fasting: Individuals who knowingly break an oath taken during Ramadan must pay Dh15 to ten poor people, totaling Dh150, or provide 3.25kg of wheat per person.

Emphasis on Religious Compliance

The Fatwa Council urged Muslims to fulfill their obligations on time, ensuring that Zakat and expiation payments reach those in need. It also encouraged individuals to seek guidance from local Islamic scholars if they require clarification on any rulings.

Zakat Al Fitr is an important charitable duty in Islam, aimed at supporting the underprivileged and ensuring social solidarity during Ramadan. Authorities reminded the public that payments can be made in cash or food before the fasting month ends.

For further information, individuals are advised to consult official religious bodies or visit authorized donation platforms.
