The Central Bank of Oman (CBO) has announced the issuance of a special silver commemorative coin to mark the FIFA World Cup 2026, further highlighting the Sultanate's participation in celebrating one of the world's most prestigious sporting events.
The commemorative coin has been produced in cooperation with FIFA and minted to high technical and quality standards using 99.9 percent pure silver, according to a statement issued by the Central Bank.
A total of 5,000 coins have been minted for distribution across local and international markets. Of these, 1,000 coins will be made available for sale within Oman, while the remaining 4,000 will be marketed globally through FIFA-authorised distributors.
Premium Silver Coin for Collectors and Football Fans
The coin carries a face value of one Omani Rial and features a diameter of 38.61 millimetres with a weight of 28.28 grams. Crafted from pure silver, the commemorative piece is expected to attract both coin collectors and football enthusiasts ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2026.
The Central Bank confirmed that the coin will be recognised as legal tender in Oman at its nominal value, although its collector value significantly exceeds its face value due to its silver content and limited availability.
Sales Begin June 30
The commemorative coin will officially go on sale from June 30 through the Central Bank of Oman's branches located in Ruwi, Salalah, and Sohar. It will also be available through Oman Post's sales outlet at Opera Galleria.
Officials stated that the initial selling price has been set at OMR 73 per coin, with the final price remaining subject to fluctuations in international silver markets.
Celebrating Football's Biggest Tournament
The FIFA World Cup 2026, set to be hosted across the United States, Canada, and Mexico, is expected to be the largest edition of the tournament in history, featuring an expanded format with 48 participating nations.
The launch of the commemorative coin reflects Oman's continued interest in supporting major international sporting events while also offering collectors a unique keepsake linked to the global football spectacle.
With only 5,000 coins produced worldwide, demand is expected to be strong among both regional and international collectors seeking limited-edition FIFA memorabilia.
