Dubai: Abu Dhabi-listed NMDC Group has strengthened its execution capacity with the addition of a new self-propelled cutter suction dredger valued at Dh618 million, reinforcing its ability to deliver large-scale marine infrastructure projects amid a growing order backlog.
The new vessel, measuring 148 metres in length and equipped with a total installed power of 30,440 kilowatts, is designed to enhance NMDC’s dredging capabilities across complex coastal, port, and offshore developments. The investment comes as demand for high-capacity marine assets accelerates across the Middle East and Asia.
With a fleet already exceeding 170 vessels, the latest addition reflects NMDC’s broader strategy to scale its operational assets in line with an expanding pipeline of awarded projects and international opportunities.
Capacity Expansion Linked to Backlog Growth
NMDC said the dredger will play a critical role in supporting reclamation works, port development, and energy-related marine projects that require sustained, high-powered operations. The self-propelled design allows greater flexibility and efficiency across geographically dispersed sites, reducing reliance on existing fleet availability.
The move aligns with the group’s efforts to manage increasing project volumes without overextending current resources, ensuring timely execution across domestic and overseas contracts.
Keel Laid, Delivery Expected in Early 2027
Construction of the dredger officially commenced with a keel-laying ceremony held on January 28, attended by senior leadership from NMDC Group and its subsidiary, NMDC Dredging and Marine. The vessel is expected to be completed and operational by the first quarter of 2027, in line with the delivery timelines of several major projects in the group’s pipeline.
The timing also positions NMDC to pursue additional contract wins while maintaining deployment flexibility across its existing fleet.
Commenting on the milestone, Eng. Yasser Zaghloul, Group Chief Executive Officer of NMDC Group, said the new vessel represents a strategic step in strengthening long-term operational capacity.
“Celebrating a new vessel build reflects our continued operational expansion and capability enhancement,” Zaghloul said. “This state-of-the-art dredger will further strengthen our fleet, improve execution efficiency, and support our strategy of deploying best-in-class assets across major coastal, port, energy, and offshore projects in our key international markets.”
NMDC has been steadily expanding its footprint beyond the UAE, supported by rising profitability, a growing backlog, and increased demand for marine and energy infrastructure services across global markets.
