Saudi Arabia’s Jameel Motors has entered the South African automotive market through a strategic partnership with China's Changan Automobile. The agreement will introduce a range of vehicles—including sports utility vehicles (SUVs), sedans, pickups, and new energy vehicles (NEVs)—to the largest automotive market in Africa, where new vehicle sales surpassed 500,000 units in 2024.

This market expansion represents a significant long-term investment by Jameel Motors, responding to growing demand in South Africa for affordable vehicles equipped with advanced technology. In January 2025 alone, South Africa’s passenger car market experienced an 18.3% year-on-year increase in vehicle sales.

Jameel Motors plans to contribute to local economic growth by creating employment opportunities and establishing a network of dealerships throughout the country.

Expressing enthusiasm about the entry, Jasmmine Wong, CEO of Mobility at Abdul Latif Jameel, stated, "We are thrilled to announce Jameel Motors’ market entry to South Africa, especially as we do so with Changan Automobile, a forward-thinking automotive player with exceptional products. We look forward to driving long-term growth and empowering South African drivers with superior personal mobility choices."

Xiao Feng, General Manager of Changan Automobile’s Middle East and Africa Business Unit, described the partnership as a key milestone, saying, "Changan Automobile is committed to establishing a world-class automotive brand. Our collaboration with Jameel Motors positions us strategically to become a major player in the South African market."

Initially, Jameel Motors will distribute CHANGAN’s combustion engine vehicles and DEEPAL’s NEVs, suited to South Africa's diverse terrain and varying road conditions. The vehicles are set to become available in the fourth quarter of 2025.

Marinus Venter, Country Manager of Jameel Motors South Africa, highlighted the company’s commitment, stating, "It’s an honor to join a company building on 70 years of automotive excellence. With Jameel Motors’ experience and Changan’s emphasis on safety, quality, and technology, we are confident in meeting the diverse automotive needs of South African drivers effectively."
