Fujairah: In a sweeping crackdown on food safety violations, Fujairah Municipality shut down 29 eateries in 2024 for failing to comply with public health regulations. These establishments faced financial penalties before closure due to repeated severe violations that posed health risks to consumers. Mohammed Al Afkham, Director General of Fujairah Municipality, emphasized the authority's commitment to food safety and hygiene, stating that strict enforcement measures will continue to safeguard public health.

"Our goal is to enhance public health and ensure food safety through rigorous inspections and strict penalties for violators. We are committed to maintaining a hygienic environment and ensuring that all food establishments meet the highest health standards," Al Afkham said.

Key Violations Leading to Closures

The closure orders were issued due to repeated and critical breaches of health standards, including:

✔ Failure to store and display food at proper temperatures
✔ Neglecting essential hygiene measures within kitchen and dining areas
✔ Poor maintenance of floors, ceilings, and drainage systems
✔ Lack of staff training on health and safety regulations
✔ Operating without valid licenses or failing to renew them
✔ Non-compliance with preventive measures, such as not wearing masks, gloves, or maintaining hygiene protocols

Over 31,000 Inspections Conducted in 2024
Fujairah Municipality's Health Control Department conducted 31,462 inspections across the emirate last year, resulting in:

🔹 1,525 official warnings issued to businesses violating food safety regulations
🔹 Multiple closure orders for establishments repeatedly breaching hygiene protocols

"Our inspection campaigns ensure that Fujairah maintains its reputation as a clean and professional city, with a safe food supply for residents and visitors. These measures also help detect and prevent food handling malpractices," Al Afkham stated.

Pest Control and Environmental Safety Measures
Authorities are also combating the spread of disease-carrying pests, such as mosquitoes, flies, and rodents, by implementing targeted pest control measures in critical areas, including:

🔹 Beaches and public parks
🔹 Markets and food establishments
🔹 Water treatment plants
🔹 Residential and industrial zones

The municipality has also enforced strict restrictions on pesticide use, allowing only licensed professionals to conduct pest control operations, ensuring public safety and environmental protection.

Zero Tolerance for Violators

Fujairah Municipality has reaffirmed its zero-tolerance policy for food safety violations. Authorities have vowed to continue regular inspections, enforce strict penalties, and take immediate legal action against any establishments that endanger public health.
