Enercap, a subsidiary of Apex Investment PSC, has announced plans to develop a large-scale energy storage battery facility in Abu Dhabi with an annual production capacity of 36 gigawatts (GW), marking a major step in supporting the UAE’s clean energy ambitions.
The announcement was made during the Make it in the Emirates 2026 platform, where the company is showcasing its latest advancements in energy storage technologies. The new facility, located in the Musaffah ICAD 2 industrial zone, will significantly expand Enercap’s manufacturing capabilities and contribute to strengthening the country’s energy infrastructure.
According to Ahmed Amer Omar, Managing Director of Enercap, the company’s energy storage systems are already being deployed across a wide range of critical applications within the UAE. These include installations in public infrastructure in collaboration with government entities, frequency stabilisation for the national grid, and energy demand management solutions. The systems are also being used to power autonomous vehicles and maritime units for border security and coastal operations.
Enercap’s storage technologies are designed to improve the efficiency and sustainability of national infrastructure, particularly as the UAE continues to expand its renewable energy capacity. The systems offer long operational lifespans of up to one million charge cycles without degradation and are capable of functioning in extreme temperatures ranging from minus 30°C to 70°C. Additionally, they deliver high efficiency, with up to 99 percent energy retention in direct current and over 95 percent in alternating current.
On the global front, the company is set to launch grid-scale energy storage projects in the United Kingdom and Germany in 2026, highlighting the growing international demand for UAE-developed clean energy solutions.
Enercap currently operates a facility in Dubai Industrial City with an annual capacity of 12GW. With the addition of the Abu Dhabi plant, total production capacity is expected to reach 48GW per year.
The new ICAD 2 facility will feature a fully integrated ecosystem, including in-house battery cell manufacturing, advanced certification laboratories, a training centre, and a dedicated centre of excellence aimed at developing local expertise in power electronics. It will also house one of the region’s largest research and development centres focused on next-generation energy technologies.
The expansion reflects Enercap’s broader strategy to support the UAE’s industrial growth, enhance the global competitiveness of locally developed technologies, and position the country at the forefront of advanced energy innovation.
