Abu Dhabi/Dubai: Emirates and Etihad Airways have cancelled and delayed several flights between the UAE and the United States because of a severe winter storm affecting the US East Coast.

The storm is expected to bring heavy snowfall, strong winds and blizzard conditions in cities including New York, Boston and Washington. Authorities have warned of major travel disruption.

Emirates cancelled flights to and from New York (JFK) and Newark (EWR) on February 22 and 23. Some flights have been rescheduled. The airline advised affected passengers to contact their travel agents or Emirates directly for rebooking. Customers connecting through Dubai will be rebooked automatically.

Etihad Airways also cancelled flights between Abu Dhabi and New York and Boston on February 23. Some services have been delayed or adjusted. The airline said passengers can rebook or request refunds and should check flight status online.

Air India has cancelled flights to and from New York and Newark on February 23 due to the storm.

Weather officials said more than 50 million people could be affected. Passengers travelling between the UAE and the US are advised to check with their airlines for updates, as further changes may occur.
