Dubai: Imagine gliding over the water from Abu Dhabi to Dubai, zipping through high-speed underground tunnels, or boarding a solar-powered rail bus—this is the future of transportation in the UAE.

At the World Governments Summit in Dubai, authorities unveiled cutting-edge innovations that will redefine mobility for both residents and tourists. From tunnel networks and solar-powered transit to flying taxis and cargo drones, the UAE is taking bold steps to revolutionize urban connectivity.

Here’s a look at four major transportation advancements shaping the UAE’s future:

1. Rail Bus: The Future of Solar-Powered Public Transport

The Rail Bus is an autonomous, solar-powered transit system designed for sustainability and efficiency.

Key Features:

  • Fully 3D-printed design made from recyclable materials

  • Two rows of orange seats with dedicated space for disabled passengers
  • 22 seats per carriage, accommodating up to 40 passengers
  • Elevated tracks across Dubai, seamlessly integrating with existing public transport
  • Solar-powered, operating independently with zero emissions
  • Capable of reaching speeds of up to 100 km/h

The system will improve first and last-mile connectivity, reducing reliance on private vehicles.

2. Seaglider: Fast, Affordable Overwater Travel

Blending the speed of an aircraft with the cost-effectiveness of a boat, the Seaglider aims to offer a new way of commuting between cities.

Key Features:

  • 12-seater passenger ride between Abu Dhabi and Dubai Marina for just $45 (Dh165)

  • Meets the same safety standards as aircraft and watercraft
  • Initial range of 300 km/h, with future models reaching up to 800 km/h
  • First commercial models expected by late 2026 or early 2027

The Seaglider will provide a faster alternative to road travel, cutting journey times without the cost of aviation tickets.

3. Dubai Loop: High-Speed Underground Transport

The Dubai Loop, a collaboration with Elon Musk’s The Boring Company, is set to revolutionize underground transport, offering direct, stop-free travel between key areas.

Key Features:

  • 17 km tunnel network with 11 stations

  • Capacity to transport 20,000 passengers per hour
  • Electric vehicles operating at speeds up to 160 km/h
  • Seamless integration with Dubai’s existing transit networks

The Loop system will reduce congestion on surface roads while offering a high-speed, energy-efficient transport option.

4. Aerial Corridor for Flying Taxis and Cargo Drones

The UAE is also developing a dedicated air corridor for flying taxis and autonomous cargo drones, linking key airports and major landmarks.

Key Features:

  • Routes planned for piloted and autonomous flying taxis

  • Seamless integration with existing transport networks
  • Easing congestion on traditional roads
  • Supporting sustainable, high-speed urban mobility

Over the next 20 months, authorities will define the air routes and regulations needed to launch this futuristic transport system.

A Vision for Smarter, Faster, and Greener Travel

The UAE’s investment in innovative transport aims to create seamless, high-speed connectivity while promoting sustainability and urban efficiency. Whether it’s solar-powered buses, underground high-speed tunnels, water-based aircraft, or flying taxis, the UAE is setting new global benchmarks for smart transportation.
