Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, has announced the development of a new residential neighbourhood in Jabal Al Ashkel, near the Khorfakkan Club for the Disabled.
Speaking during a phone interview on the programme Direct Line, the Ruler said the area has been allocated for the construction of hundreds of homes for Emirati citizens and will be known as Al Ashkel Neighbourhood.
He said infrastructure work will include paving a new road connecting the area to Al Rafisah, adding that the mountain homes in the neighbourhood will have architectural features different from residences overlooking the sea.
The Ruler reassured residents of Khorfakkan that there will be no shortage of residential land, noting concerns that housing areas such as Al Harray were nearing full capacity.
He revealed that 270 homes are currently under construction in two phases, including 120 homes in Al Mudeife, where plots have already been handed over to the Department of Housing.
Additional plots in Al Harray, previously allocated to commercial licence holders, are being transferred to the municipality. Construction on those plots is expected to take around two years.
The Ruler also confirmed that similar residential projects are under way in Kalba, following the same regulations. Developments are progressing along the ring road, including areas such as Al Ghayl, Al Saaf and Al Tareef, with construction already started in Al Dahiyat residential neighbourhood.
