Dubai Municipality has conducted 24,820 inspections of food establishments across the emirate during the first five months of 2026, reinforcing its commitment to maintaining high food safety standards and protecting public health in one of the world's busiest food trading hubs.
The inspections covered a food sector comprising more than 26,500 establishments and formed part of the municipality's ongoing efforts to ensure compliance with stringent health and safety regulations.
Dr. Naseem Rafee, Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Environment, Health and Safety Agency at Dubai Municipality, said food safety remains a fundamental component of Dubai's development strategy and a key factor in enhancing quality of life for residents and visitors.
"Dubai has become a leading global model in transforming public health challenges into practical and sustainable solutions that protect community wellbeing," Rafee said.
According to officials, the municipality has achieved high compliance rates across the food sector through a comprehensive regulatory framework supported by continuous inspections, monitoring programs, and collaboration with industry stakeholders.
Dubai's strategic position as an international trade and logistics hub adds significant importance to its food safety operations. The emirate's ports and entry points receive more than 1,000 food consignments daily, making effective monitoring and inspection essential to safeguarding the food supply chain.
Municipality officials noted that routine inspection results and monitoring indicators continue to demonstrate strong adherence to food safety requirements across the sector. The findings reflect both the effectiveness of Dubai's regulatory systems and the cooperation between government authorities and private-sector businesses.
Rafee emphasized that Dubai Municipality remains focused on strengthening the emirate's food safety ecosystem in line with its vision of becoming a future-ready city supported by sustainable and resilient food systems.
Beyond local oversight, the municipality also plays a critical role in monitoring imported and traded food products to ensure they remain free from food-borne pathogens. These efforts contribute to reducing health risks associated with food-borne illnesses while supporting the continuity and resilience of international food supply chains connected through Dubai.
