Abu Dhabi – Abu Dhabi Aviation Group (ADA) has announced a groundbreaking partnership with Archer Aviation to introduce the world’s first fleet of Midnight electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft. Operations are slated to begin later this year, positioning the UAE as a global pioneer in urban air mobility (UAM).

Under a newly signed memorandum of understanding (MoU), Archer and ADA will collaborate to establish a framework for commercial deployment of the Midnight aircraft in early adopter markets, working alongside the UAE General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA). This initiative marks the start of Archer’s global ‘Launch Edition’ programme, which aims to roll out an initial fleet of eVTOLs in strategic locations worldwide.

First Electric Air Taxis in the Region

During the signing ceremony, Abu Dhabi Aviation confirmed its commitment to fund the deployment of the Midnight aircraft, making it the region’s inaugural operator of electric air taxis. Archer will also provide a team of experienced pilots, technicians, and engineers to support the operational ramp-up, ensuring a seamless launch of the new service.

Expertise and Innovation

“We have been observing the advancements in eVTOL technology for years, and we are proud to partner with Archer to bring this innovation to the UAE,” said Nader Al Hammadi, chairman of Abu Dhabi Aviation. “As a leading force in the aviation industry across the region and the largest helicopter operator in the Middle East, Abu Dhabi Aviation has the expertise to develop a scalable urban air mobility service. We are excited to lead the way in launching the region’s electric air taxi service, starting right here in Abu Dhabi.”

Adam Goldstein, CEO and founder of Archer, described the deal as a key milestone for the company: “The unveiling of Launch Edition marks the beginning of the next chapter for Archer. This is how we’ll bring Midnight from the manufacturing line to our first customers — and it’s a playbook we’ll run repeatedly as we scale our operations globally.”

Key Features of Midnight

  • Piloted, Four-Passenger eVTOL: Each aircraft is designed for quick turnaround flights, allowing minimal charge time between back-to-back trips.

  • Reduced Travel Times: The eVTOL aims to transform 60–90-minute car commutes into 10–20-minute flights, cutting congestion and lowering carbon emissions.

  • Low Noise and Sustainable Operation: Archer’s electric propulsion system offers a quiet flight experience while reducing environmental impact.

Enhancing Urban Air Mobility

As part of the partnership, Archer will offer an integrated software infrastructure, including a dedicated booking application, to streamline operations and elevate the passenger experience. This will allow residents and visitors in Abu Dhabi—and potentially other early adopter markets—to schedule on-demand air taxi flights, ushering in a new era of efficient, eco-friendly travel.

With Abu Dhabi Aviation’s backing, the Midnight eVTOL fleet is poised to become a centerpiece of the region’s rapidly evolving transportation ecosystem, marking a bold step toward the future of urban air mobility.
