The United Arab Emirates has entered the world’s top 10 exporting nations for the first time, marking a significant milestone in its economic journey, according to the latest report by the World Trade Organisation (WTO). The country’s total trade in goods and services surged to $1.637 trillion in 2025, up from $949 billion in 2021, highlighting its growing role as a global trade hub.
Goods trade accounted for $1.33 trillion, with exports contributing 53% of the total. At the same time, services trade crossed Dh1 trillion for the first time, driven by strong performance in sectors such as finance, logistics, hospitality, and information technology.
The UAE also recorded a trade surplus of Dh584.1 billion in 2025, reflecting a 19% increase compared to the previous year.
Globally, the country ranked ninth in goods exports and 13th in imports, further strengthening its position in international markets. Its contribution to global goods exports reached 3.3%, while services exports accounted for 2% of the global share.
The digital services sector continued to expand, with exports valued at $33 billion, representing 17% of total services exports.
Dr. Thani Al Zeyoudi, Minister of Foreign Trade, said the achievement reflects the UAE’s competitiveness and the confidence of global markets in its economy. He added that the country will continue to strengthen its trade network through strategic agreements and policy reforms.
The WTO report also highlighted potential challenges ahead, including slower global trade growth due to geopolitical tensions and rising energy prices. However, the UAE is expected to remain resilient, supported by its diversified economy and forward-looking policies.
