Parenting tips are easily accessible online, but a recent survey reveals that 7 in 10 new mothers in the UAE prefer seeking advice from their families, particularly their own mothers, during their child’s early years. This trend stems from the trust in family wisdom and the overwhelming nature of conflicting information online.

Family Wisdom vs. Digital Resources

Many new mums find comfort and practical solutions in the traditional knowledge passed down through generations. Dubai resident Amal Hurieh shared how her mother’s presence during her baby’s early months was invaluable. “Even though I have access to online advice, nothing compares to my mother’s experience and calm presence,” she said.

Amal also relies on her mother’s traditional remedies, such as herbal treatments for colic, which provide reassurance beyond what modern methods offer.

Overcoming Challenges with Family Support

For Abu Dhabi resident Zoya Chhabra, her mother’s support during struggles with breastfeeding was life-changing. "She reminded me to prioritize my health and not feel guilty about formula feeding," Zoya shared, highlighting the mental relief her mother provided during a tough time.

Similarly, Filipino expat Felizze Faye Flores-Navarro finds strength in her mother’s time-honored practices, from using oils for baby skincare to preparing fresh, homemade meals. These traditions keep her connected to her roots while providing effective care for her child.

Why Mothers Trust Family Advice

The survey indicates that while modern resources like parenting apps and support groups are available, mothers often turn to family because it simplifies decision-making and reduces the stress of information overload. Trust in familiar methods provides emotional and practical support during one of life’s most challenging phases.
