Abu Dhabi – The United Arab Emirates has launched the first phase of the Blue Visa, a long-term residency program aimed at individuals who have made significant contributions to environmental conservation and sustainability. The initiative was announced during the World Governments Summit 2025, highlighting the country’s commitment to fostering global sustainability efforts.
As part of this initial phase, 20 distinguished sustainability leaders, researchers, and environmental activists will be awarded the prestigious visa. The selection process is overseen by the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment in collaboration with the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Ports Security (ICP).
Recognizing Global Environmental Leaders
The Blue Visa, a 10-year residency permit, extends the UAE’s efforts to support professionals dedicated to environmental causes. It builds upon the success of the previously launched Golden and Green Residency programs, which offer long-term stays to investors, skilled professionals, and entrepreneurs.
This exclusive residency is granted to individuals who have demonstrated outstanding commitment to sustainability, including:
- Members of international organizations working on environmental initiatives.
- Leaders of global companies driving sustainable solutions.
- Activists, researchers, and academics making meaningful contributions to ecological preservation.
- Recipients of prestigious international environmental awards.
Application Process
In the initial rollout, government agencies specializing in sustainability will nominate candidates through an electronic system. Interested individuals may also apply directly via the ICP website and mobile app, subject to eligibility criteria and approval procedures.
The UAE continues to position itself as a global leader in climate action and environmental sustainability. Through the Blue Visa, the country aims to attract and retain the best minds in sustainability, ensuring long-term contributions to ecological progress both locally and internationally.
