Residents in the UAE applying for life insurance can now skip traditional medical tests, thanks to an AI-powered face-scanning tool that measures key health parameters during a videoconference. This innovative technology, introduced by Sukoon Insurance, will assess an applicant’s heart rate, blood pressure, and respiration rate, making the process faster and more convenient.
AI-Based Medical Screening
This new system removes the need for physical health examinations, allowing individuals to complete their insurance applications remotely. According to Emmanuel Deschamps, Executive Vice President at Sukoon Insurance, the tool is currently available for specific age groups and policy limits.
“This is a pioneering step in the insurance industry. We will gradually expand the scope of medical test exemptions while ensuring accuracy and reliability,” Deschamps stated.
By integrating artificial intelligence, insurers can now conduct health assessments digitally, reducing paperwork and saving time for both customers and providers.
AI’s Expanding Role in the UAE
The UAE government continues to push for technological advancements across various sectors. According to a study by Trends Research and Advisory, the country’s AI market is projected to reach $46.33 billion by 2030, driven by the National AI Strategy 2031 and heavy investments in research and innovation.
Sukoon Insurance, which recorded Dh5.84 billion in gross written premiums (GWP) in 2024, is among the first insurers in the UAE to implement AI-driven health screening. The company, rated A by Standard & Poor’s and A2 by Moody’s, aims to provide a more efficient and accessible insurance application process.
Cost Savings and Customer Benefits
With AI-based health screening, applicants can complete their insurance process from anywhere, eliminating the hassle of medical center visits. Additionally, Sukoon Insurance covers the cost of medical tests, providing financial relief to customers.
“This solution enhances flexibility and convenience while ensuring an accurate health assessment. It’s a game-changer for life insurance applicants,” Deschamps said.
By leveraging advanced AI technology, this initiative is expected to set a new standard for life insurance procedures in the UAE, making coverage more accessible and hassle-free for residents.
