Sharjah, UAE: The Sharjah Light Festival (SLF) is back for its 14th edition, enchanting visitors with breathtaking light displays across the emirate. Running from February 5 to 23, 2025, this year’s festival has expanded to include four new locations, further showcasing Sharjah’s vibrant cultural and architectural heritage. After almost a year of meticulous planning, the festival is set to captivate a massive annual turnout, which exceeded 100,000 visitors last year alone.
Support for Local Businesses
In addition to its dazzling displays, the SLF continues to serve as an important platform for small businesses, offering them an opportunity to gain visibility and grow their ventures. The Light Village, located opposite University City Hall, is at the heart of this initiative. Open daily from 5 PM to midnight, and until 1 AM on weekends, the Light Village provides a unique setting for over 60 small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to interact with festival-goers and promote their products and services.
Khalid Al Midfa, Chairman of the Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority (SCTDA), emphasized the significant role the festival plays in supporting local entrepreneurs. “The Light Village is not just about sales; it’s about exposure,” he said. “Entrepreneurs with a vision can use this platform to enhance their brand recognition and grow beyond the event.”
The festival’s decision to introduce ticketed access for certain visitors—after initially offering free entry—has been well received, helping to better balance the experience for both attendees and business owners. Al Midfa noted that this change was made to improve the return on investment for the SMEs, while also ensuring a more diverse and engaging visitor experience.
A Boost to Sharjah’s Global Reputation
The Sharjah Light Festival’s growing success not only benefits local businesses but also plays a vital role in the UAE’s broader tourism ambitions. By attracting thousands of visitors from across the globe, the festival contributes to the country’s goal of becoming a top global tourism destination. Al Midfa remarked that the festival’s immense exposure offers a valuable opportunity to promote Sharjah as the cultural capital of the Arab world.
“We are very proud of the diversity of events that we host, and the impact they have on how Sharjah is perceived globally,” he said. “The Sharjah Light Festival helps strengthen the emirate’s reputation as a dynamic, world-class cultural hub.”
With its immersive light displays and focus on supporting local businesses, the Sharjah Light Festival is set to continue shining brightly as a key event in the UAE’s cultural calendar.
