Dubai, UAE – In 2024, the Dubai Police K9 Unit accomplished a remarkable feat, completing 2,800 missions across various domains, including search and rescue operations, security inspections, and community engagement activities. With a dedicated team of over 70 trained dogs and more than 50 specialised trainers, the unit has proven essential in ensuring the safety and security of the city.

The K9 unit's efforts were particularly significant in search and rescue missions, where the swift response of trained dogs played a crucial role in locating missing persons and assisting in emergencies. These efforts were vital during critical incidents, demonstrating the importance of the dogs as vital partners in maintaining public safety.

Diverse Roles in Security and Inspections

In addition to their search and rescue work, the K9 teams were actively involved in security inspections during major public events. The dogs were deployed at crowded places, including New Year celebrations, helping to ensure a safe environment for residents and visitors. The unit uses a variety of breeds such as Labrador RetrieversBelgian MalinoisGerman Shepherds, and Cocker Spaniels, each selected for their specific skills in areas like explosives detectiondrug detection, and SWAT support.

Lieutenant Colonel Salah Al Mazrouei, Director of the K9 Security Inspection Department, emphasized the significance of these inspections, saying, “Our K9 teams are vital to maintaining the security of the community during major events and public gatherings.”

Fostering Community Engagement and Awareness

In 2024, the K9 unit also placed a strong focus on community outreach, conducting 1,158 activities in schools and government institutions. These initiatives aimed to educate the public about the K9 team's roles and their contributions to public safety. The K9 unit's presence at events like Expo 2020 and school visits helped to raise awareness and build stronger ties with the community.

Al Mazrouei stated, “Our outreach programs help people understand the capabilities of our K9 teams, fostering trust and collaboration between us and the community.”

Advanced Technology to Enhance Operations

To further improve operational efficiency, the K9 unit has integrated advanced technologies into its work. Thermal sensorstracking systems, and health monitoring tools have been introduced to ensure the well-being and optimal performance of the dogs. These innovations play a crucial role in both the health management of the dogs and the effectiveness of the unit’s operations.

“We continue to leverage cutting-edge technology to monitor and support our teams,” Al Mazrouei explained. “These tools ensure our dogs remain in peak condition for any mission.”

International Missions and Global Impact

The K9 unit’s influence extends beyond Dubai, with teams also participating in international missions. In 2024, Dubai’s K9 unit contributed to humanitarian efforts and training programs in countries like Morocco and Libya, reinforcing the global importance of K9 operations in disaster relief.

Growth and Recognition

With the growing interest in joining the K9 department, the unit’s reputation for excellence continues to attract both aspiring trainers and volunteers. The success of the K9 unit is reflected in its recognition as the best security inspection department in the country.

“Our dedication and teamwork have been recognised nationally,” Al Mazrouei shared proudly. “We are honoured by the trust and support we receive from the community and law enforcement.”

As the K9 unit moves into 2025, its commitment to trainingpublic safety, and community service remains unwavering, ensuring that Dubai stays safe, secure, and ready for any challenge.
