Dubai’s upcoming Joby Aviation air taxi service could eventually become as affordable as popular ride-hailing apps like Uber or Careem, according to a senior official from the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).
While final pricing has not been set, Ahmed Bahrozyan, CEO of the RTA’s Public Transport Agency, said the service will start off cheaper than today’s helicopter rides and gradually become more accessible as operations scale.
Speaking at the Dubai Airshow 2025, Bahrozyan said: “Building these aircraft is expensive initially. But with economies of scale, costs will come down, operations will become more efficient, and the technology will improve. Eventually, we aim for fares similar to an Uber or Careem trip.”
The electric air taxis, developed by Joby Aviation, are part of Dubai’s plan to integrate aerial mobility into its public transport network alongside the Metro, buses, and taxis.
Joby recently completed the first point-to-point electric air taxi flight in the UAE, following earlier desert trials. Visitors to the airshow are able to see the aircraft in demonstration flights.
Officials believe that as the technology becomes more affordable, air taxis will shift from novelty transport to everyday mobility, offering faster, cleaner, and more efficient urban travel.
