Air Kerala, a regional airline spearheaded by two Dubai-based businessmen, is gearing up to begin domestic operations in India. With agreements signed to operate out of Kannur in Kerala and Mysuru in Karnataka, the airline is on track to commence services by June 2025, according to its chairman, Afi Ahmed

Strengthening Regional Connectivity

The collaboration with Kannur and Mysuru airports marks a significant step for Air Kerala. During a meeting with the Airports Authority of India-Mysuru and local officials, agreements were reached to establish an aviation academy in Mysuru and promote regional tourism.

Ahmed stated, “This collaboration underscores our commitment to enhancing regional connectivity.” The airline aims to connect Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities with major metro airports, improving accessibility for travelers across India.

Plans for International Expansion

Air Kerala has also set its sights on international operations, expected to begin by late 2026. With Kochi as its main base, the airline recently obtained clearance from the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security, moving closer to securing an Air Operator Certificate (AOC) from India’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).

Affordable and Timely Travel

CEO Hareesh Kutty emphasized the airline’s focus on affordability and punctuality. “We will offer tickets at very affordable prices and ensure timely operations. Avoiding delays will be a top priority for Air Kerala,” he said.

Hiring and Expertise

To support its ambitious plans, Air Kerala is actively recruiting experienced aviation professionals, including pilots and operations experts, with a preference for candidates from the UAE and GCC regions. The airline’s leadership team includes industry veterans such as CEO Hareesh Kutty, CFO Kirti Rao, and experienced pilots like Captain CS Randhawa and Captain Ashutosh Vashishth.

A New Chapter in Indian Aviation

With its focus on affordability, regional connectivity, and timely service, Air Kerala is poised to transform air travel for underserved regions in India. The airline’s plans to establish international routes and aviation training facilities further highlight its commitment to growth and innovation in the aviation sector.
