Ahmedabad - In a shocking incident, Air India Flight AI171, a Boeing 787 Dreamliner, crashed into a building in Meghaninagar just minutes after departing from Ahmedabad’s international airport. The crash, captured on video, shows the aircraft losing altitude and exploding on impact.
The plane, bound for London Gatwick, took off at 1:39 PM with 242 people onboard, including two pilots and ten cabin crew. Piloted by Captain Sumeet Sabharwal and First Officer Clive Kundar, the aircraft sent out a MAYDAY call to ATC before losing control.
Due to being fully fueled for the long-haul flight, the crash triggered a fireball and massive smoke plume. Emergency response was swift, with six NDRF teams from Gandhinagar and Vadodara working alongside local fire and ambulance units.
The DGCA and other aviation authorities are investigating the crash. The flight data recorder and cockpit voice recorder are being retrieved to understand the mechanical or operational failure that led to the tragedy.
No confirmation yet on casualties, though rescue operations continue under tight security.
