Tell us about your early life, education, and career journey?
I grew up in a small place in Northern India called Renukoot, an industrial township surrounded by nature and a relaxed lifestyle. My dad, an electrical engineer, sparked my interest in engineering. I enjoyed taking things apart and understanding how they worked. My family hails from Alappuzha, Kerala, known as the Venice of the East. Growing up near the coast fueled my love for the sea and boats. After exploring careers in software development and industrial power generation, I started my professional journey in 2005 with Technology Ventures Middle East. Over time, I became General Manager and CTO of C-TORQ (formerly Technology Ventures Middle East) by 2023. Together, as a team, we grew from an electrical and automation integration firm to pioneers of hybrid boats in the Middle East, expanding into global markets with clean propulsion technologies.

What is your current role, and what do you enjoy most?
As the General Manager and CTO of C-TORQ, I oversee operations and lead innovation in technology and product development. My favorite part is engaging with my young team, specializing in power electronics and software development. Their energy is contagious, making me feel much younger. The drive to reduce emissions and establish new standards in sustainable maritime technology motivates me.
A Milestone Achievement in the UAE
What is your proudest professional achievement?
Since starting my maritime career, I’ve had many proud moments completing various projects. It’s challenging to choose just one, but we are currently commissioning our first hybrid project in the UAE. I was involved in designing and executing this project, which features 1,500 kWh batteries and energy management, as well as propulsion systems, all developed by C-TORQ. We’re now testing it at sea. This pioneering project marks a milestone in the UAE and is among the first hybrid vessels by a leading logistics company in the region.
Overcoming Challenges in a Competitive Industry
What major challenge have you faced, and how did you overcome it?
Being a minor player compared to OEMs in Europe and facing client hesitation toward hybrid and electric marine propulsion was a tough test. We viewed this as an opportunity, recognizing that European giants weren’t targeting the Middle Eastern market. Starting in 2015, we developed our own capabilities and partnered with companies such as Danfoss and Deif. Our success with a solar hybrid boat in 2019, along with innovations such as Integrated Controls and Energy Management (ICEM), helped us demonstrate our competence. As a result, project inquiries from around the world started to flow in.

How do you stay ahead in your industry?
There’s no single secret to remaining at the forefront. Our achievements are also attainable by our competitors. To stay ahead, innovation must be part of C-TORQ’s DNA. We cannot rely solely on past successes. I encourage my team to continually generate new ideas. Thinking we’ve perfected something means losing the race, as perfection is a moving target. Continuous improvement and thinking differently from yesterday keep us moving forward.
