Amid a significant surge in visa amnesty applications, typing centres across the UAE have ramped up their staffing to cope with the increased demand. As thousands of overstaying expatriates rush to regularize their status under the UAE's ongoing amnesty programme, many centres have found it necessary to extend their working hours and hire additional personnel.
Rising Demand and Longer Working Hours
The amnesty programme allows individuals who have overstayed their visas to regularize their status without incurring penalties. This initiative has led to a sharp increase in the number of people seeking assistance at typing centres and immigration offices throughout the UAE. According to Masiuddin Mohammed of the Quality Government Service Centre in DIP 1, the number of applications processed daily has exceeded 200, prompting the centre to expand its workforce from eight to thirteen employees, including part-time staff from other typing centres.
“Due to the heavy rush, we are also operating on Sundays to accommodate as many people as possible,” Mohammed stated, emphasizing the need for continuous effort to manage the high volumes of applicants.
Increased Workload at Medical Fitness Centres
A similar scenario is unfolding at other centres, such as the Karama Medical Fitness Centre. Hani Ibrahim, a representative from the centre, revealed that the number of staff had increased from eleven to sixteen within two days of the amnesty program's launch on September 1. The centre has seen a substantial rise in applications and had to hire more employees to maintain efficiency.
Impact of Amnesty Programme
The ongoing amnesty programme has proven to be a lifeline for thousands of overstaying expatriates, providing them with a chance to regularize their status without facing legal repercussions. As a result, the surge in visa amnesty applications has overwhelmed many typing centres, prompting them to hire extra staff and extend working hours to meet the demand.
The measures taken by these centres ensure a smooth and efficient process for amnesty seekers, helping them to navigate the complex immigration landscape in the UAE.
